Queen Artemisia and her husband King Mausolus loved filling their city, Halicarnassus, with beautiful temples, grand buildings and shiny statues made of gold and marble.
She would use plants as medicines. If her people were healthy and felt good, then they would be able to enjoy all the beautiful things around them.
Not only did Queen Artemisia build a splendid city, but she created the prettiest tomb in the whole world!
Her tomb was later called a Mausoleum and it was chosen to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World because it was so lovely.
But, in the last years of her life, she had to defeat an army that was coming to take her kingdom from her!

It also includes a reference to the historical figures Queen Artemisia I and King Xerxes.
Illustrations throughout the book are by Ariel Cousens, a young artist from Tasmania.
